The Municipal Co-opearative Officer, Mrs. Dorcas Kwakye honoured an invitation on the 14th May, 2025 from some farmers at Ahwerase to educate them on the formation of a co-operative group. This meeting was held at Ahwerase L/A School. The farmers were enlightened on the processes involved in forming a co-oprative group such coming together as a group to elect executives, opening bank accounts in the name of the group, rules and regulations etc. She espoused the economic and social benefits from forming the group.
She stated the economic benefits they could derive included but not limited to:
Shared resources
Increased bargaining power
Improved market access
Under Social benefits, they could achieve the following:
Community building
Democratic decision-making
Social support
She ended by stating that by working together, co-operative societies can achieve economies of scale, improve their market position and create positive social and economic impacts.
After the meeting, the farmers resolved to take immediate steps in forming the group so they reap the benefits thereof.
